Event Highlight: Celebration Dinner with Chloe Thomson

Chloe with Committee members (Rosemary Ulph, Carol Jordon, Barbara Ormerod)

Our Celebration dinner on 20th November was our final event for 2024 and drew women from many parts of the industry – Landscape Designers, Nursery employees, volunteers, Lecturers and government advisors. Thanks go to our event sponsors Cohort Nursery and Ausflora Pacific for making this event possible.

Our guest speaker, Chloe Thomson, well-known horticulturist, writer and podcaster of Bean There Dug That, described her pathway to where she is today: a path which included not knowing what career to take up, navigating unwanted attention from a male employer and overcoming a lack of confidence.

She gave the audience practical tips on setting up a business and encouragement to break through those feelings of inadequacy.

Further cause for celebration during the evening was the awarding of certificates to our 2024 Dawn Fleming Student Scholarship winner, Zarah Copeland, and our Small Business Grant winner, Zoe Hibberson.

Michele Adler’s new book “Burnley Gardens: Their Design and the People who loved them” was our “lucky attendee” prize – won by Tamita Peterson from Mt. William Advanced Tree Nursery.

We thank all who attended, wish you the best for the festive season and ask that you keep an eye out for our 2025 event calendar which will be due out in February.
