Biochar and ECOSS (Ecology, Community, Sustainability) Tours

From Waste to Wonder – Exploring Biochar in the Yarra Ranges

Join us for a fascinating and flavourful day discovering how biochar is transforming the future of sustainable gardening and soil health — right here in the Yarra Ranges.

🌱 Part 1: Behind the Scenes at the Yarra Ranges Biochar Facility (10–11am)

Discover how Yarra Ranges Council turns woody waste into biochar – a powerful soil enhancer that improves soil structure, boosts water retention, and locks carbon safely in the ground for generations. See the process in action and learn how this innovative circular-economy project is helping reduce waste while supporting healthier soils across the region.

🌿 Part 2: Garden Talk & Tour at Yarra Valley ECOSS (12–1:30pm)

We’ll then head to Yarra Valley ECOSS, a vibrant community hub for sustainability and education. Enjoy a guided garden tour and a practical talk on how to use biochar effectively in your own garden, with demonstrations and insights from local experts.

Registered attendees can purchase locally produced biochar from ECOSS on the day and receive a 15% discount.

🌮 Part 3: Relaxed Mexican Lunch & Tonantzin Chocolate at ECOSS (1:30–2:30pm)

Afterwards, relax over a delicious Mexican taco lunch at the ECOSS Café and treat yourself to something special from Tonantzin Chocolate’s Chocolate House onsite. 🍫

There is also a native nursery on site.
