Autumn Coach Tour to Gisborne Gardens – Gisborne, Saturday 21st April, 2018

Oz Watergardens & Whispering Hills Winery Tour, Saturday 25th November 2017
Join us for our final event for 2017. Oz Watergardens is Australia’s largest producer of ornamental water plants. Our tour starts here at 10.00am at 100 Glen Road, Silvan where Darryl Hoogeboom will take us on a tour of his facility explaining the propagation and maintenance of this interesting group of plants.
At Whispering Hills Winery, 580 Warburton Hiqhway, Seville, Murray Lyons will give a short tour and talk about his vineyard and winery, before his wife Marie Lyons (former Masterchef contestant) treats us to a delicious lunch of gourmet pizzas from her wood-fired oven.

Circular Food & Fawkner Cemetery Tour, Wednesday 5th July, 2017
Next month we’ll be taking a walk on the north side, a self-guided tour travelling to Circular Food in Somerton and Fawkner Northern Memorial Park in Glenroy. Come see how Circular Food fights its “war on waste” by converting our food waste into high quality organic fertiliser “Big Bio” – with a little help from our friends, the worms!
Then it’s on to Northern Memorial Park for a free lunch kindly provided by the Cemetery, and a unique talk and tour about their new Living Legacy area where our loved ones may be commemorated through the planting of trees. These are both sites which in their different ways are helping to reduce global warming: Circular Food by reducing the waste going to landfill and Northern Memorial Park by planting trees.
2017 NGV Winter Masterpieces Exhibition: Van Gogh and the Seasons, Friday 23rd June.
Join us for the EWHA Annual Excursion to the NGV Winter Masterpieces Exhibition. This year the focus is the work of Dutch post-impressionist artist, Vincent Van Gogh. The work is presented in sections depicting each of the four seasons. This exhibition presents the largest collection of Van Gogh work to ever travel to Australia.
Prior to viewing the exhibition, we invite you to join us for dinner at “Jarrah” Restaurant in Southbank, where we can unwind from the busy week. Celebration of Women In Horticulture, Friday 26th May, 2017
Yes, it’s that time of year, to celebrate our achievements and contribution to the horticulture industry!
We will meet once again at Dawn Fleming’s Southbank apartment for an evening of wine, women and song! There will be music to entertain you and also the opportunity to meet our winner of the EWHA Dawn Fleming Student Scholarship for 2016, Teagan Alexander, who will be joining us from Darwin.

Edible Weeds Tour, Friday 28th April, 2017
Weed foraging in April! This month we have the opportunity to visit Doris Pozzi, Melbourne’s own Edible Weeds Guru at her Yarra Valley property to go foraging for weeds – that’s right, we don’t have enough at home!
Doris will take us on a tour of her beautiful, organic garden to enlighten us about the value of the humble weed and all its uses.

We are kicking off 2017 with a “behind-the-scenes” tour of 2 wholesale Nurseries in Kinglake – Antique Perennials and Prestige Plants, two well-known names in our horticulture industry.
This is your opportunity to learn about the challenges faced by these Nursery operators, who have based their businesses in an idyllic, but daunting location.
We will also be sampling some of the local hospitality over lunch at the Kinglake Pub.

Spring has sprung so it’s time to savour the season’s delights in the Dandenongs!
EWHA is running a self-guided tour of three nurseries: Sunny Hill Flowers, TNB Tulips and Paeon Nursery with a break for lunch at “Seasons” Restaurant at Cloudehill Nursery & Gardens, Olinda. It will be an ideal opportunity for a behind-the-scenes peek at these businesses which bring us some of our most beautiful blooms.
NGIV Trade Day, Tuesday 4th October, 2016

EWHA is once again offering access to the Nursery & Garden Industry Victoria’s monthly Trade Day at Caribbean Gardens, Scoresby. Hitherto only open to NGIV members, EWHA has been granted special entry to this Spring market so that you can meet the growers and source the best stock available.
You’ll be able to purchase plants and other goods at trade prices so bring along your van, ute or other roomy vehicle to take full advantage of the wares on offer! There is an ATM on site and food is available for purchase in the market or the Cafeteria outside.
We suggest you arrive at the recommended time of 6.30am as delays can be expected at the entrance. EWHA will have a stand at the market to spread the word about our events and make contact with women in the industry.

NGV Winter Masterpieces Exhibition – Degas: a New Vision, Friday 9th September, 2016
This year’s NGV Winter Masterpieces Exhibition will show off the work of French impressionist artist Edgar Degas.
We invite you to join us for dinner prior to viewing the Exhibition. We have chosen a quiet Restaurant in Southbank nearby, where we can unwind from the busy week, prior to going on to the Gallery. There will be no charge for this event apart from your Exhibition admission and meal/drinks which are at your own expense.

‘From Petri Dish to Pot’ Tour of Tissue Culture Australia, Wednesday 13th July, 2016
Join us for a tour that follows the journey of a new plant from tissue propagation to a pot in the Nursery. Tissue Culture Australia is a business at Skye, near Cranbourne, owned and managed by women. It is one of the largest in Australia, producing 2 million cultures per year. You will be familiar with the Austraflora and Aloe-Aloe brands – come see how their plants are created.
We will finish with lunch (at own expense) at the nearby McClelland Gallery Café in the Sculpture Park at 390 McClelland Drive, Langwarrin.
‘Get Down ‘N Dirty’ Garden Maintenance Forum – Thursday, 16th June 2016
We do hope you can join us for an inspiring and informative evening with three successful women in Horticulture. This is an opportunity to hear their experiences in the Garden Maintenance field through a Forum we are holding at Holmesglen Institute, Glen Waverley.
Jane Dennithorne who was Head Gardener at the historic Kew property, “Raheen” for 15 years will share her experience there, describing her journey in horticulture and the challenges of managing a high profile heritage property. Jane now has her own garden design business “Design Hortensis”
Marrit Postema was Senior Gardener at Burnley for 6 years. She will give us her tips on garden maintenance particularly in relation to pruning techniques.
Michele Farrugia has run her own very successful garden design and maintenance business, “The Garden Tarts” in the eastern suburbs for 12 years. She will address some of the practical aspects of running this type of business, imparting tips she has learned along the way and recommending strategies to ensure success.
