Premier Plants is a long established production nursery situated in Cranbourne South. We supply groundcovers and shrubs to retail nurseries and the landscape industry.

We are a rapidly growing  production nursery, requiring a well presented and energetic person to join our friendly team. This is a casual position.

Duties include working in despatch, maintenance of stock, potting, possibly assisting propagators and some delivery  of stock. Minimum 3 years experience in production nursery preferred, and a manual car licence required. A medium rigid licence an advantage


Horticulturalist

Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria : South Yarra, Victoria

The Horticulturist (located at Melbourne Gardens) is responsible for providing technical support as part of the Horticulture team to deliver horticulture activities including garden maintenance, living plant collections curation, turf care, plant records, plant health, biosecurity, storage and use of hazardous substances, and irrigation to contribute to the achievement of branch objectives.


Production Nurseryperson

Melbourne Polytechnic : Fairfield, Victoria

We are very excited to announce that Melbourne Polytechnic is seeking to appoint an experienced  Production Nurseryperson in our Horticulture and Landscaping Department.

Your primary objective will be:

  • Maintain the Nursery facility at the Fairfield Campus by providing technical support to the Horticulture and Landscaping Department and maintaining nursery facilities equipment and nursery stock to the highest standard.
  • Undertake retail nursery operations and sales and provide advice to the Manager Horticulture and Landscaping on the production and sales of plants and associated materials.
  • Develop, co-ordinate and implement work schedules and record systems within the nursery.
  • Provide technical support to the staff and students of the Horticulture and Landscaping Department.

Nursery Production Team Leader

Mt William Advanced Tree Nursery : Lancefield, Victoria

Mt William Advanced Tree Nursery is a Wholesale/Retail Production Nursery, located in Lancefield, central Victoria.

We are seeking applications from candidates for an Experienced Production Team Leader to join our team.

You will be responsible for a small team and would be accountable for overseeing all daily production operations at one of our two production sites located at Lancefield, central Victoria.

The successful candidate will have,

  • Qualifications in Horticulture,
  • Minimum 2 years’ previous Supervisory Experience,
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills,
  • Ability to work independently and also as part of a dynamic and diverse team,
  • Ability to prioritise tasks in a busy production environment,
  • Sound problem solving skills.

This is a full time position and the role requires the ability and willingness to undertake weekend work on a rotating basis.


Production Nursery – Nursery Hand

Mt William Advanced Tree Nursery is a Wholesale/Retail Production Nursery, located in Lancefield, central Victoria.

We are seeking applications from candidates interested in commencing Full Time Permanent work as a Nursery Hand with Mt William Advanced Tree Nursery.

Previous experience within the Horticulture Industry is preferred but not essential

Due to extensive and continued growth, they are now looking for a highly experienced Production Manager to lead their happy and productive team.

The nursery and advanced tree environment is state of the art. They attract high end wholesale and retail customers as well as having extensive preferred supplier agreements with a variety of councils and tier one landscapers. We continue to be the number one “go to” supplier and due to extensive growth, we are looking to engage a Senior Production Manager who can not only lead a team but provide top quality and knowledgeable advice to our clients and service teams. Merchandiser

Haar’s Nursery : Somerville, Victoria

We are seeking Merchandisers for the inner suburbs of Melbourne, metropolitan areas of Melbourne and in and around the Mornington Peninsula to join our merchandising team.

Merchandisers have a pivotal role in the business, working closely with our key retailer to ensure Haar’s products are well presented and positioned for consumers.

Our merchandisers work outside in the nursery to service retail stores and have responsibility for the following activities:

Propagation Coordinator

What we are looking for:

You have experience within horticultural enterprises and a strong knowledge base including a range of propagation techniques. You are passionate about permaculture principles, regenerative agriculture and organic practices. You’ve had exposure to enterprise finances and know how to manage a budget and maintain accurate records. Conversing confidently comes naturally to you and you can manage volunteers, liaise with multiple stakeholders and can work in a collaborative manner. Ideally you’ll be equipped with a first aid certificate and have previous experience working in community organisations.


Agricultural Extension Trainees

Queensland Farmers Federation : various locations in Queensland

We are looking for three positions as Agricultural Extension Trainees to be filled. We are looking for three graduates that are passionate about making a difference for the Great Barrier Reef, are passionate about Agriculture, and are looking to widen your industry experience.

The Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) is facilitating an Agricultural Work Placement Program, funded by the Great Barrier Reef Foundation (GBRF), which aims to improve the capacity of early career extension officers (Trainees).

Three positions are available in three different host organisations in the Burdekin Region for 12 months. Each position has a specific description. Please see our website or the attachments for the position description.

The successful applicant will work alongside and receive mentoring from experienced advisors, participate in relevant training, engage with growers and graziers, and expand their access to professional networks. The focus of the position is on reducing the risk of excess nutrients, pesticides and sediments from agricultural runoff impacting reef water quality in the GBR catchments.

The Trainee will develop expertise in one or more of the following areas: land management, water management, water quality, soil health, and nutrient and pest management. The program will enhance the Trainee’s extension skills as they assist in delivering agricultural and Natural Resource Management (NRM) projects with landholders.


Junior Permaculture Designer & Operations Assistant

You’ll have completed a PDC, and have strong experience with CAD. You cannot wait to use and develop your design skills. You will fit seamlessly into our team of enthusiastic gardeners. This role is designed to give the incumbent an opportunity to develop their Permaculture design skills whilst supporting the Director. This will enable them to progress to higher levels of responsibility within the team. Based in Burwood, this role will involve extensive travel across Metropolitan Melbourne. This casual role is anticipated to involve working 3 to 5 days per week, usually on a Monday to Friday .

At times, this position will involve manual labour and working with noisy power tools. We work in all weather conditions, including heat, rain and wind. The role is very active and requires someone who is physically fit.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Director
  • Participating in design projects from start to finish
  • Confidently liaising with clients
  • Attending site visits and compiling client briefs
  • Base mapping and technical drawing (utilising Sketch Up)

Retail Nursery Staff

Collector’s Corner : Melbourne, Victoria

GENERAL DUTIES include:

  • Identification and knowledge about relevant plants to be able to supportcustomers with plant selection and providing growing advice
  • ​​Managing stock, merchandising, cleaning etc.
  • Experience or the ability to perform other tasks across the store, including front counter and register.
  • Duties will also entail moving and replenishment of stock, watering, cleaning and other physical tasks, and ALL applicants must be fit and able to lift, carry, push, pull, bend etc. without issue.
  • Preference given to people with extensive knowledge of the relevant plant groups, however serious enthusiasts with a passion for learning may also be considered.
  • ​Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred and horticultural qualifications, knowledge of other plants in our range, or strong interest in plants would be of benefit.

VET Trainer – Horticulture

CERES Community Environment Park : Melbourne, Victoria

We are looking for an inclusive and innovative qualified VET trainer in horticulture with experience delivering accredited training to participants from all walks of life. You are passionate about sustainability and keen to pass that passion on to your students through hands on learning experiences. You are a patient communicator who makes learning fun, and you love seeing your students gain confidence as they achieve their learning outcomes.

You will :

  • Deliver the CERES Training curriculum to students and groups
  • Provide hands-on, real world learning experiences in sustainable horticulture
  • Must be available Wednesdays from July to November 2019 with the potential for additional work
